Lake Aguamilpa

Bassin 'til your arms hurt !!

Lake Aguamilpa is a 70 mile long reservoir with 330 miles of shoreline and full of aggressive Florida Strain Largemouth bass.

It is located at a 2,400 - 3,600 foot elevation, 20 miles from Tepic, Nayarit.  Many of the bass are in the 7 lb. range, with some exceeding 10 lbs!

Usual catches are 75 to 100 bass per angler per day.

With a growth rate estimated by Mexican biologists at 2 pounds per year, Lake Aguamilpa’s bass population gets noticeably bigger each season.

Most bass fishing anglers use traditional bass fishing methods; but fly fishing for bass is also popular. Currently the lake record is 14 lbs. 6 oz.

Fishing Tips:

On Lake Aguamilpa the Texas Rig with 5" stick baits, worms, & lizards is a popular technique for catching numerous bass throughout the day.

Among other baits to use are medium or deep-diving crankbaits, spinnerbaits, underspins, topwater plugs, and popper frogs.
