Lake El Salto

Located in the state of Sinoloa, about 55 miles northeast of the port city of Mazatlan, Lake El Salto was created in 1986 with the damming of the Elota River. The result is a remote reservoir that sprawls across 27,000 acre feet. The government was convinced in 1985 to stock the holding lake with Florida Strain Large Mouth Bass before the water was released into the main lake. Mexican bass fishing authorities saw to it that those bass implants were left undisturbed for nearly five years. That allowed them to grow on shad and tilapia, which are very plentiful. By 1990, El Salto’s black bass population immediately lived up to any angler’s hopes and dreams. The lake quickly became renowned for its sheer abundance of bass; and as a place where catches of 100-bass days occurred regularly.

With a year-round growing season, it is estimated trophy bass at Lake El Salto grow at a rate of 2 pounds per year. A lake record has been set at 19+ pounds. It has been reported that some bass, weighing close to the world record, have been found floating in the lake. An enormous crop of 10-18 pound largemouth bass now swim in these tropical waters.

This lake has become one of the best trophy bass fishing lakes in Mexico and possibly the world. Come join us in a bass fishing trip to Lake El Salto; perhaps you will be the one to set the hook on a NEW WORLD RECORD.

Lake Oviachic

Lake Oviachic, also known as Lake Obregon, covers a surface area of over 20,500 acres. It is one of the most prevalent locations for sport fishing in Mexico. This man-made reservoir was constructed between 1947 and 1952. It boasts a well-stocked number of largemouth bass that feed on tilapia and shad.

Visitors and fishing enthusiasts from as far as Europe and Australia come for bass fishing trips at Lake Oviachic throughout the year. It hosts a very popular annual International Largemouth Bass Tournament. The lake here was heavily restocked with Florida Strain Black Bass in approximately 2006 and has had several record spawns in the past years, insuring the lake’s bass fishing popularity for some time to come.

Every year the average size of largemouth bass has increased. In recent seasons catches averaging between 5 to 9 pounds have been very common. It is normal to see boats with two anglers catch 80-100 bass daily, still searching for that trophy bass to beat the lake record of 16.4 pounds. On a recent excursion, two bass fishermen reeled in a whopping 216 in one day (even taking time for lunch and a 3-hour siesta.) Amazing!!!!!!!!! This is all the more reason for everyone who enjoys bass fishing to book a trip to Lake Oviachic.
