Lake Baccarac, also known as La Presa de Bacurato, is located in the Northern Pacific tourism region of Mexico, just 20 minutes from the old gold mining town of Bacubirito. Boasting a surface of 30,000 acre feet and an average depth of 115 feet, the lake overlooks the gorgeous Sierra Madre Occidental Mountain Range in the state of Sinaloa. This sparkling man-made reservoir is roughly 25 miles long and is fed by the Sinaloa River. It is a fresh water lake, featuring an impressive maximum depth of about 325 feet. Completed in 1978, the dam is known as the Presa Diaz Ordaz, named after Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, a political figure and president of Mexico from 1964 to 1970.

Bass fishing is the name of the game at Lake Baccarac, which holds the record for the largest black bass ever caught in Latin America: 19.1 pounds. However, many have claimed to have reeled in trophies as heavy as 24 pounds. Back in 1978, the lake was stocked with Florida Strain Largemouth Bass, which are rumored to spawn up to five times per year in this tropical climate. The bass at Lake Baccarac feed on high-protein shad and tilapia, both found in great numbers at the lake. This permits them to grow to unbelievably large sizes. Anglers are practically guaranteed to walk away with at least one or two feisty 10-pound+ bass on any given visit. All too frequently catches weighing well into the double digits have occurred. Fishing reports commonly document mouth-dropping daily averages of 75-100 catches per day per boat.

Our local guides offer largemouth bass fishing excursions with 20 ft. custom Panga bass boats, fully equipped with a depth finder, trolling motor, etc.

The views from Lake Baccarac are nothing short of stunning. The area is known for its pristine mountain peaks, winding rivers and valleys, and magnificent coastal panoramas – the sights don’t get much better than this. The weather here is generally sunny, with high temperatures reaching 84-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Our guests fly into Los Mochis, a city situated about two and a half to three hours away by car.

Lake Baccarac is nothing short of a bass fisherman’s paradise. Beautiful weather, a peaceful ambiance, and unbeatable trophy black bass fishing combine to create the perfect recipe for an unforgettable Mexico getaway.
